Eating my Words…at Least a few Letters

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

LettersA few weeks ago, I predicted that wall decals were a trend on its way out. And, in general, I stand by that decree. But, I am certainly willing to admit that I was wrong about Blik. Their wall decals just keep evolving.

I am totally enamored with the Alphabet Zoo
design shown here. It is one of the results of a Blik-Threadless user-generated design contest.

You can vote on the next round of Threadless Blik sticks  here.

Type City Prints

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

TypecityVeer’s Type City Web site features amazing landscapes composed completely of type. Recently, Veer has produced beautiful letterpress prints of their typographical sites on 5×7" cards. They would be lovely framed and displayed as a group.

A set of 10 is $55.

Double Take: Good Old-fashioned Slate

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Blackboardkitchen I had to rethink chalkboards when I saw this photo of a real slate board above a kitchen sink posted by Phoebe of Silk Felt Soil. She is currently working to convert a large piece of slate into art for her living room.

The best part about the slate, aside from the very bold graphic punch it delivers to a light wall, is the ghostly remnants of what’s been written there. Those leftovers look a lot like art.

Modern Home Coloring Books

by Kathy Helbig Leave a Comment

Modern_home
I ran across these really cool coloring books from Rock, Scissor, Paper. I have always loved coloring, there is something about it that is so relaxing. Add that to the fact that you can color modern pictures of the home and interiors and you’ve got a match made in Heaven.

The Modern Home Idea & Coloring Journal is a way to inspire, record, and dream all about your home, your ideal home, or your dream home. The book comes with 25 blank pages, 25 grid pages, and 12 coloring book pages.

If you’re more interested in the inside of your home like me, check out theCreative_interiors_2

Creative Interiors Idea Journal & Coloring Book. Same pages are included in this book but with the interior of a home in mind.

Hijacked Ceramics on Etsy

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Il_430xn7881151Ceramicist Nathan William’s Crossroads collection features functional ceramic pieces imprinted with impressions of places like Mexico and Thailand. William bases the pieces on "reverberations of history, color, joy, and mystery" he encounters in the places he travels.

The collection evokes an old-world mysticism perfectly with half-faded patterns and washed-out color. The ceramic forms William’s uses are simple and practical, leaving the intrigue of the ornamentation to shine.

DIY: Outfits as Art

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Featured_main03Becky’s post about purses as decor reminded me of this display from the Fusion Home Fashion Web site.

FHF is a store in Dallas that sells modern clothing, furniture, and art in one spot.

If your clothes are looking nicer than your home, this is a simple way to make that fancy wardrobe pull double duty. Simply pick up a few cork-boards from a craft store, paint the frames a bright color, and drive a nail into the top. You can buy a few nice hangers, hang up your best duds, and you have ever-changing art as fashionable as you are.

Deborah Bowness Wallpaper

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

DressDesign Hole just posted about this amazing wallpaper designed by Deborah Bowness. I remember having seen it somewhere and misplaced the site link, so I was overjoyed to run across it again.

NY Magazine wrote that wallpaper is the new art, and these haphazardly applied images of the everyday-made-beautiful certainly qualify as art in my mind.

See more designs here.

Art Goes Peel-And-Stick

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Yhst90232485432833_1939_1284888
We’ve seen our fair-share of wall decals used in lieu of wallpaper or mural, but Butch & Harold takes the idea to framed art work with a sense of whimsy.

They offer six fun peel, stick, and re-stick designs complete with their own frames. No nail holes. No patching. Totally cute.

Shown here: Grove and Hudson.
