DIY Photographic Wallpaper

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Nfl_08peachHow do you turn an image like this into a stunning wall installation? It’s simpler than you might think. Interior designer John Janik and photographer Michael Horta turned this image of peach blossoms taken in L.A. into wallpaper using photo editing software and a color printer. Here are their tips for trying it at home:

1. Photograph an image you love.

2. Manipulate the image in a good photo-editing program to get the look you want.

3. Print using a quality printer and paper. "We used an Epson 4100
printer and Epson Enhanced Matte Paper for a richer, more velvety
finish," says Horta.

4. Mount with standard wallpaper paste. "You can also frame
individual prints for instant wall art," says Janik, who used the
technique for the dining room of his Dallas home.

Vintage Kimono Prints at Anthropologie

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

77432_blu_frtAnthropologie’s Vintage Kimono Prints have a lacey quality to them at first glance. At second look, the patterns are a mix of the organic and the geometric.

Shown here: Shoji, $168.

Trend Combo: Deer+Doily

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Yhst15374113641821_1942_4011287A fabluous trend mash-up: A black-and-white deer-head in a doily pattern. I have to admit I think doily is one of the silliest words in the English language. And I was a little skeptical of the trend, especially as it might apply to any new clothes I’m adding to my closet. Nonetheless, this is a cute print. I love the masculine stag done up in lace. This doily thing is growing on me a little.

$97 on ModernDose.

Something New in Wall Decals

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

433691677_e8ebd5ae04_o_2Invasions Ephémères is adding a touch of quirky elegance to the already whimsical world of wall decals. The Parisian design firm is selling amazing large-scale silhouettes that I would describe as Mary Poppins meets Jessica from Roger Rabbit. My favorite is the curvaceous woman at the café table. She would make a lovely addition to a feminine dressing room.

The decals start at about 49 Euros. Please see the post on Decor8 for more information on pricing and ordering.

Tiny Horse Says What?

by Sarah C. Leave a Comment

Tinyhorse
Thank you to Design*Sponge for posting this amazing image from Amy Jean Porter’s "Tiny Horse Says What" series. I have literally been staring at it for 15 minutes. I love it.

The series will document all 200 of the world’s horse breeds. They are all amazing, whimsical, and spectacularly colored. I think I love this one because the landscape reminds me of the small towns in the Texas Hill Country.

By the way, Ms. Porter’s site also features images of other subjects, like poodles and dinosaurs.
