I can honestly say I’ve never met anyone who has cooked their own dog food. To me, it sounds intimidating, time consuming, and expensive. However, this recipe by Emily at Emily’s Little Homestead is anything but. It’s made from fresh ingredients, all prepared at once, and will last your dog for two weeks. If you are concerned about what you are putting into your dog’s body, then this recipe is for you! Here’s what you need:
2 lbs ground pork
2-2.5lbs ground beef
1 large sweet potato
1 large apple, cored
2 carrots (or 8 baby carrots)
1 c. kale
1/2 c. blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 c. rice
1 1/2 c. water

I’ve never been a crazy dog person. I like dogs; I think they’re cute. But people who buy little outfits for their dogs, throw doggie birthday parties and weddings, and bring their dogs everywhere honestly weird me out, haha. I guess it’s because I’m more of a cat person.
I used to think that unless you worked from home, were a stay at home parent, were on different schedules than your roommates, or were unemployed/retired, there’s no way you could have a dog. After all, they DO have to be let out every couple of hours. Plus, you need to have at least 1 acre of fenced in property for the dog to run around in.
If your pooch is sick, it can also be really stressful for you. Having to clean up accidental messes, worrying about their health, and having to wrestle the medicine into their mouths can be pretty overwhelming. If you’re lucky, you can just throw the pill in with the dog food, and your dog will just gobble it up. For my dogs, we’d wrap the pill in a slice of American cheese and give it to them. The dogs happily ate it up, and thought they were getting a treat.
