I used to think that unless you worked from home, were a stay at home parent, were on different schedules than your roommates, or were unemployed/retired, there’s no way you could have a dog. After all, they DO have to be let out every couple of hours. Plus, you need to have at least 1 acre of fenced in property for the dog to run around in.
However, there are still ways to be a responsible dog owner if you’re out of the house for eight hours a day. Check out this post by Lorna Ladd at the Dog for Dog Blog for tips on how you can work full time, and still come home to a happy, healthy pooch:
-Send your dog to doggie daycare!
-Hire a dog walker to walk your pet daily (or have a pee pad / bathroom area in your home)
-Give them a bone to chew on, or a dental chew toy
-Make sure your dog can look outside through doors/windows
-Add a new chew toy every once in a while
-Get another dog, so she has company while you’re gone all day
