How Your Dog Says “I Love You”

by Kathy T.

Most of us don’t doubt that our dogs love us. We can just see it in their eyes, their smiles, and how excited they get when you return home. However, there are other lots of “secret” ways that dogs show that they are content in their homes and love their humans. Check out this post by Newquotes for some of them:

-Staring directly into your eyes- he is basically “hugging” you with his eyes

-Leaning on you- this is a symbol of affection. He also may just be nervous, but in that case, it still means you are someone he thinks will protect him.

-Cuddling with you after eating

-Sleeping in your room

-Freaking out when you return home

Keep Your Pets Safe This Halloween

by Kathy T.

Halloween is my favorite time of year. I love the decorations, the weather, and yes, dressing up. I’m an adult. I do what I want, haha. However, while Halloween is a fun time for kids and adults everywhere, it can be a dangerous night for your furry friends. Besides the risk of animals running outside when the doorbell is constantly being rung by trick or treaters, all animals are at a higher risk of abuse on Halloween night. Sure, there probably aren’t pockets of sacrificial death cults roaming your neighborhood, but I’m sure you have a jerky teenager or two. Animals, especially black cats, often become the victims of cruel “pranks” on Halloween.

So, to keep your pets safe, keep them inside. Consider keeping them in a closed room away from the front door so they won’t run out. That way, you, your family, and your pets will have a safe and fun Halloween.

If You Have A Cat, You Need To Read This

by Kathy T.

I believe that every person alive should do everything they can to keep those around them safe. You should know what to do in an emergency: it could save your (or someone else’s) life. Know how to do CPR, do the Heimlich Maneuver, when to call 911, how to bandage a wound and apply pressure to stop bleeding, etc. If you choose to have pets, knowing how to perform certain tasks with them will keep them healthier and happier. If you have a cat, read this article by catington post at Ebay.com. You should know how to:

-Trim a cat’s nails

-How to give a cat a pill

-How to take your cat’s temperature

Ultimate Doggie Bucket List

by Kathy T.

Dogs are only in our lives for a short time. Their average lifespan is 15-20 years. That seems like a long time when you bring in a new puppy, but it flies by in the blink of an eye. Most dogs are happy to just have a home: shelter, food, water, and love. When you come home, it’s the highlight of their day. When you play with them, pet them, and give them attention, they are the happiest beings alive. That’s why I think it’s important to let your dog experience as much as they can while they’re here. Show them that you love them just as much as they love you. I think this “bucket list for dogs” by CD Watson at Petful has some great ideas on adventures to take with your pooch:

-Take him on a cross country road trip

-Visit a pet-friendly national park, go hiking together! Go camping.

-March in a parade (or just take your dog to see a parade)

-Go to the ocean, or just a lake (humans and dogs should always wear lifejackets). Let him ride in a boat.

-Ride in a convertible with the top down.

-Do some volunteer work together. Go to a nursing home, a day care, or an animal shelter and help out (call ahead and see what you can do!)

Friday Fun Video: DIY Pet Costumes

by Kathy T.

These are so cute! My friend will usually get a tutu and a set of kid’s fairy wings for her dog for Halloween. It is the most adorable thing ever, and her dog loves dressing up! She runs around all over the house, prancing around and showing off her outfit.

What To Buy Before A Hedgehog

by Kathy T.

One of my friends just adopted a rescue hedgehog, and is slowly trying to socialize him. She had owned a hedgehog for several years before, but that one recently passed away. The point is, my friend is basically the hedgehog whisperer and I’m around them a lot now. They can be finicky (that may just be the rescue hedgehog who is still getting used to being handled by humans), but are still fairly easy to care for if you know what you’re doing (I wouldn’t recommend them to families with young children, though). If you are looking for a new pet, consider a hedgehog! They are totally adorable and loving creatures- don’t let their spines intimidate you! If you are thinking of adding a hedgehog to your family, check out this post by Emmy at Frank Loves Beans for supplies that you need to get before adopting one:

-A cage that is at least 18”x24”

-An exercise wheel

-Liner, pee pads, or bedding. Plus an actual bed/igloo

-Food. Hedgehogs actually eat certain types of dry cat food!

-Moisturizing lotion- hedgehog skin can get extremely dry

-A heat emitter and thermometer to keep them at a comfy higher temp.

This post is dedicated to the memory of Amy the Hedgehog. <3
