I’m not a mom myself, but I am an aunt. And I lived with and raised my nephew for two years, so I’ve seen it all. And I know there are days where just NOTHING goes right. Maybe your kid is extra cranky, or sick, or YOU’RE sick and cranky, or the cable is out, or you burned dinner, or work ran late and you had to pick them up late from daycare. Or maybe all of those things happened on one EXTRA crappy day. We’ve all been there, and it’s okay. Bad days happen, and it’s okay to not be perfect. It’s okay if your kids skipped their bath and wore dirty clothes all day and had cereal for dinner. It’s not the end of the world. They’re still alive, and so are you.
If you’re having one of those days, and need just one moment of happiness and fun, check out this list by Julie at Jules and Co. It’s a bunch of super cute “5 second fixes” when you’re feeling like you’re not the best mom. Many times, just sharing a simple moment with your kids can completely turn the day around. Here are some of my favorites:
-Start a tickle fight
-Take a deep breath and count to five together
-Give them a hug
-Race each other- to the nearest tree, or to the kitchen
-Play a round of Simon Says
-Eat a piece of chocolate or other treat
-Scratch their back
-Call someone you love together (Grandma! Or an aunt, uncle, or friend!)
-Tell a joke
-Say “I love you”.
