Tina Fey was recently interviewed by New Yorker magazine. Flavorwire links to some of her best quotes on being a working mom and this one struck a chord with me,
“‘How do you juggle it all?’ people constantly ask me, with an accusatory look in their eyes. ‘You’re screwing it all up, aren’t you?’ their eyes say. My standard answer is that I have the same struggle as any working parent but with the good fortune to be working at my dream job. Or sometimes I just hand them a juicy red apple I’ve poisoned in my working-mother witch cauldron and fly away.”
Read all her quotes, though some may contain language offensive to some people.
I have always been a working Mom, though the last seven years had been easier as a real estate agent. That I was missing so much of my daughters’ lives always shook my core. But when I would pick one up from day care and see the absolute joy on her face helped. Or I would come home to little arms wrapped around my neck. Even today, my youngest – at the age of 15 – still clearly needs her Momma. She thinks I’m a pushover. But we talk about her problems and worries. I give her boy advice. She gives me advice on how to wear my makeup.
I’ve always worked while both girls grew up. I regret not being able to spend more time with them, but I do believe they are still both well-balanced individuals.
