Friday Fun Video: Kids, Do NOT Try This At Home

by Kathy T.

Stunt family travels together performing. This is crazy! I can’t imagine letting my kid light herself on fire, or jump over a bus on a motorcycle. No thank you!

Rich Teens – Lucky!

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

Who were the 10 richest teens in the world in 2012?  Not the two young ladies living in my house – unless you count that they are experience rich from living with me. They got to go camping, rock climbing, white water rafting, they learned to cook, to write, to play.  Yep. My kids are rich.  But not like the moneyed rich.  From Smart Earning Methods, it’s Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus. Technically Miley is now 20, but she earned all that dough as a teenager!

Miley Ray Cyrus was born on; November 23, 1992. She is known as an actress and pop singer-songwriter. She achieved wide fame for her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana. Becoming the center of attention of the viewers as a character of Hannah Montana, Cyrus then switched to recording music for the soundtracks, released by Walt Disney Records. She established herself as ever teens’ idol in so less age.

Yes. Lucky!

Baby 20 on the Way

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

November is typically the month to be thankful.  We see people talk about how thankful they are for family, friends,  shelter, good food, employment, and church family. However, I am thankful that I just had my two children because – honestly – if I had more than that I’d probably repeatedly run myself into a wall.

Make no mistake, I LOVE my daughters.  I would do almost anything for them (no murder!).  But the idea of the NOISE that a house-full of kids makes, the messes, the yelling, the hitting, the fighting… I just could not imagine.

Therefore the 20th pregnancy of Michelle Duggar’s … holy cow.  I’d think her body would be pooped out enough, but how does she stay sane?  With all that noise?  I’m right there with Jamie of Blonde Mom Blog,

Still I cannot imagine the sheer physical stress of having that many babies, especially the state of one’s baby makin’ and baby maintainin’ parts.

Also kids are LOUD. I barely survived driving my 9-year-old and two of her friends jacked up on birthday cake sugar home from a party recently. There was much shrieking and singing off key and general back seat shenanigans and probably a passerby on the interstate or five mouthed a silent prayer for my sanity.

God bless the Duggar family. I hope baby 20 is healthy and happy and that Michelle will also have a stress-free, good pregnancy.

New Solar Power Design Discovered by 13 Year Old

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

Traditional flat-shaped solar panels may be a thing of the past thanks to an incredible leap of logic by a 13-year old New Yorker.  Walking through the woods, he noticed the shape of limbs growing from trees and made the connection to the spiral Fibonacci sequence. From Gizmodo,

That trees were using this pattern to gather more light. So he did an experiment. Using the same number of solar cells, he built two working models. One was a traditional, flat array will all of the panels on a single plane. The other used the Fibonacci Sequence to create the same spiraled pattern he observed in the trees.

Aidan Dwyer discovered the tree design solar panels made 20 percent more electricity and collected 2 1/2 more hours of sunlight during the day.  During the dark month of December, the tree design collected 50 percent more electricity.  Aidan’s report with the American Museum of Natural History can be found here.

Congratulations to the young man on his amazing discovery!

On Lime Sized Pregnancy

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

Little Erin says she wants us to have a baby in the house. No. Absolutely not.  Even though both my daughters have pregnant friends, I hope they wait a few years before making me a Grandma.  Erin think *I* should have another.  Again – absolutely not.

However, I truly am greatly enjoying the pregnancies of other people, especially TheoGeo who we’ve featured here before.

This week there is a little lime-sized thing in me. If all is still well, its bones are hardening, its tooth buds are forming, and its little fists are getting ready to start opening and closing and, hopefully, getting ready to be christened with good old-fashioned Irish nicknames some day. It is now technically a fetus and no longer an embryo. That’s a big upgrade, baby. But you still have a long time to go before you can rent a car.

Aw… lime sized.  Congratulations Ms. Lindsey! I’m excited for you!

I’ll Be That Mom

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

I have a feeling that someday I’ll be described like Kristy is described.  I already feel a connection with her.

I love my mom, I do not want to be her. My sister and I have emailed, called, and texted “Krincidences” that happen. We both have “Kristy moments” and try to out do each other while not really trying to out do each other. My sister, Jen, called me just the other day to tell me she drove off with her coffee cup on the top of her car. I did this very thing this very morning. I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry. We love to catch each other committing a Krincidence, it happens more often now that we have a bunch of children. Holidays turn into full-blown competitions with a weighted scoring system. I won Thanksgiving 2009 just by showing up in the exact same shirt as my mom. That was a gigantic blow to my ego.

My youngest daughter does not like my clothes.  Actually she hates them with a passion!  I do so hope that one day we wear the same clothes for Thanksgiving. Actually my oldest Annie does have a pair of jeans like mine.  Or I have one like her.

I once had a shirt that upon reflection was pretty hideous.  I realized how bad it was when my husband and I were driving and I glanced at the 65-year old(‘ish) woman we were passing.  We had twin shirts.  That particular white with purple and blue flowered garment became a part of my pajama drawer.

On Being a Working Mom

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

Tina Fey was recently interviewed by New Yorker magazine.  Flavorwire links to some of her best quotes on being a working mom and this one struck a chord with me,

“‘How do you juggle it all?’ people constantly ask me, with an accusatory look in their eyes. ‘You’re screwing it all up, aren’t you?’ their eyes say. My standard answer is that I have the same struggle as any working parent but with the good fortune to be working at my dream job. Or sometimes I just hand them a juicy red apple I’ve poisoned in my working-mother witch cauldron and fly away.”

Read all her quotes, though some may contain language offensive to some people.

I have always been a working Mom, though the last seven years had been easier as a real estate agent.  That I was missing so much of my daughters’ lives always shook my core.  But when I would pick one up from day care and see the absolute joy on her face helped.  Or I would come home to little arms wrapped around my neck.  Even today, my youngest – at the age of 15 – still clearly needs her Momma.  She thinks I’m a pushover.  But we talk about her problems and worries.  I give her boy advice.  She gives me advice on how to wear my makeup.

I’ve always worked while both girls grew up.  I regret not being able to spend more time with them, but I do believe they are still both well-balanced individuals.
