Baby D is almost 22 months old now. He just loves taking off his clothes and running around in his little birthday suit. That is very normal at this age and it is kind of cute and funny. The problem comes when he is alone in his bedroom. He strips down and takes off his diaper. For two days straight, I walked in to a room full of little poopies spread (and smeared) all over his room! He had also taken aim at his carpet and bed!
A friend suggested a possible solution to this problem. She said to put his diaper on backwards because he might have a harder time removing it. I am going to give it a try but have a feeling that mischevious Baby D will work his way around that one quickly enough. I also wonder if a backwards diaper will absorb properly, and I already have a problem with him waking up wet. Another thought she had was putting a onesie on him because the snaps might deter him.
I would truly appreciate any suggestions that someone might have. It wouldn’t be a big deal for him to take off his clothes but I am starting to dread opening his door after a nap. I already know what he ate, I don’t need to be reminded in this yucky way!
Check out these pj’s that toddlers can’t take off on their own! They are called Escapeejays, escape-proof pajamas. http://www.escapeejays.com
Get the Little Keeper Sleeper. NO safety pins, duct tape or putting sleepers on backwards. Don’t put your child in a sleeper that doesn’t fit correctly, especially around their neck. This company created the perfect sleeper that all parents of toddlers should have. See for yourself at http://www.littlekeepersleeper.com
The answer to all your problems exist on this website (mookimoo.com). They have sleepwear designed specifically for this frustrating phase of development (which can last for some time). Check them out.
You guys are making me laugh because I just changed the sheets 3 times in 24 hours- one was for the poop incident. Anyway, thanks for the great suggestions and I will be trying the tape!
I'm a parent of 3 kids. My twins would take off their diapers and play with their poop. I tried all kinds of ways to stop the behavior but it didn't work. A friend told me about a garment that they could not get out of. I gave it a try and IT WORKED! You may want to try it. It's called the little keeper sleeper. You can get it from their website http://www.littlekeepersleeper.com. Hopefully it will work for you.
I know this may seem a little mean but it works. Simply take a strong tape, start at the back of the diaper wrap it around once or twice and finnish at the back of the diaper again, (this also helps with not having those huge messes in the morning from poo explosions from younger children) Father of 2 year old son
I have been having the same issue with my son continuing to take off his diaper when he is in bed. I thought I had him when I put him in a onsie, and then I noticed him reaching through the leg hole. So I put shorts ontop of the onsie. Alas, the shorts were off as was the diaper, and poop was everywhere. I have been looking around at other sites and I noticed one that might help- cheekeebaby.com . I am also gonna look at the one listed on this page.
Our middle son is 22 months old. I believe he was inspired to strip and announce "potty, potty" by his potty training brother of 3 years. He also does the crib thing…strips, pees. We frequently find him naked in bed.
We have done the onesie, backwards pjs, backwards diapers, everything and nothing has worked. We have punished, we have tried rewards, time outs, reasoning…nothing works. We know he wants to potty train so all day we allow him to use the potty when he asks, but the naptime and bedtime is the worst. I am sick of pee everywhere. If something works let us know. Just know you are not alone and we sympathize.
When our daughter was 17 months old, she also was able to take off her sleeper. On a couple of occasions, we went in to get her and it was wrapped around her neck which concerned us greatly. It wasn't until she removed her clothes and diaper that we decided to do something. We created toddler sleepwear to address this common phase of development that sometimes lasts for months. Feel free to visit us at mookimoo.com. I think we have the solution to your problem. I hope we're able to help. Good luck.
Laurie,
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I really like the idea of a zippered PJ turned backwards. We had the worst incident yet 2 days ago where it was a mush mess all over the carpet. So gross.
I have been putting a onesie on him backwards. That has helped because he has a hard time reaching around enough to unsnap from the back but the zipper idea is better. Thanks again, I appreciate it 🙂
a friend had this same problem and hearing her solutions always brought a smile to my face! (PS she is a PHd in child psychology)
They put the boy in leotards by day!
by night it was zipper jammies put on backwards (have to cut the feet out to wear in this fashion)and for steamy summer nights they would cut them to shorts – just not too short cause the little booger could sometimes/somehow still get the diaper out!
He is now well over two – and while his nakedness still shows it cute little rear – he is much better – and they don't have the change the sheets after every nap & night!
Good Luck!
Update: Just since I wrote this post, Baby D the poop slinger struck again! This makes 3 times in 2 days. Help me!
