I have been a little worried about the economy might affect some of my clients (and me). However, I saw this article from oDesk today, pointing out that freelancing is actually enjoying phenomenal growth. The article is mostly about freelance software developers, but it also applies to other types of freelancing. And I'll admit that it has given me some peace of mind. Here is what oDesk points out about freelancing:
This growth was faster relative to other countries known for outsourcing, like India and Russia.
This made me think about why freelancing jobs might be doing reasonably well in this economy. Here is what I came up with:
* No overhead for office space, supplies and utilities.
* Do not have to provide benefits or retirement plans.
For companies cutting costs, those who work at home as freelancers can help cut costs in this challenging economy.
