Adorable Idea- “Big Sister Bags!”

by Shakadoo Leave a Comment

6994246259_af234eecf1_zIf you already have kids and are expecting another, it’s normal for the older siblings to become excited, anxious, and even jealous- sometimes all on the same day. It’s a lot of complicated emotions for them to deal with! One mom came up with an adorable idea to help her daughter get used to the idea of becoming a big sister- she made her a “big sister bag!” Check out this post by Janell Wolford at the Raising Little Vegans Blog for what she put in it:

-Crayons and coloring books

-Bubbles

-Fruit Snacks

-Books about becoming a big brother/sister to read together

Getting Active Indoors

by Shakadoo Leave a Comment

14888663087_5fb2d29535_zDuring the winter time, it can be hard for kids to get the exercise that they need. If they’re cooped up indoors with no activity, it can lead to restlessness, irritability, and a decline in physical health. Where I live (in the south), it’s still in the 60s outside, so we are able to still go out. However, I know that lots of moms are in colder states, and I know that colder months are coming for me too! That’s why it’s important to be able to get your kids active indoors. For a list of fun things to do that will get you moving, check out this post by Becky Dempster at Parenting.com:

-Set up a number themed, string obstacle course

-Brain building animal poses- it’s a fun version of yoga for kids!

-Create an indoor hopscotch mat

-Blast some music and take a dance break!

Being Prepared: What Moms Should Keep In Their Purses

by Shakadoo Leave a Comment

CSC_0246I’m not a mom, but I already have the giant purse to be one. Yep, I’m one of those crazy ladies that carries her entire house around in her bag: makeup, notebooks, pens, books, sunglasses, band-aids, Tylenol, usually some sort of snack, water bottle, mirror, hairbrush… You name it, I probably brought it with me. This has come in handy several times when babysitting my niece and nephew- especially carrying snacks. If you’re with kids during your every waking hour, it definitely pays to be prepared! Check out this list of 18 things that every mom should keep in her purse by Lisa at The Survival Mom:

-A flashlight

-A mini first aid kit with: Tylenol, Tums, Benadryl, Band-aids, and Bactine.

-Small bills of cash, quarters and change for machines

-Moist wipes/ Kleenex

-Water, crackers

Ok, so how precious are these??? And there’s no water, so it’s a great craft idea for young kids as well (with supervision, of course).
