17 Gender Neutral Baby Shower Theme Ideas

by Shakadoo Leave a Comment

13508821_901613526634642_5667619336455196503_nMy cousin had her baby shower last week, and it was absolutely precious. She did a “rustic woodland” theme, and decorated with twigs, leaves, pine cones, tree trunk vases. Her cake was white, with little deer figurine toppers (pictured). It was understated, simple, and beautiful. And I found it much more tasteful than the traditional princess/tutu/glitter/sports/mustache themed showers I’ve been to. If you are planning a shower soon and looking for a more original baby shower theme, I’ve come up with a few ideas:

-Woodland

-Beach/Nautical/Under the Sea

-Jungle

-Holiday (Christmas, Halloween, Valentines, etc.)

-Space

-Moons and Stars

-Fandom Themed- Harry Potter, Star Wars, video games, etc.

-Color palette: pick 2 or 3 colors, just buy décor according to those (pretty much as easy as it gets)

-Rain/Cloud themed baby “shower”

-Pick a cute animal: deer, owls, whales, bees, foxes, penguins, birds, pandas, elephants.

-Heritage themed: were your ancestors from Ireland? Mexico? India? Japan? Theme your shower around your culture, cook traditional food, and celebrate where you came from. If the mother and father are from different cultures, combine them both into a cultural fusion party!

-Book/Library theme

-BBQ “Baby-Q”

-Religious themed

-Travel/hot air balloons

-Luau

-Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer

Baby Shower Theme Ideas

by Kathy T.

When my sister had her baby, we had a “gender reveal” party to all find out the sex of the baby together. The theme was “Waddle It Be?”, and we decorated with ducks! I went to another baby shower this past weekend, and the theme was purple and owls, and it was adorable. Now, you don’t need cutesy animals or clever puns to have a successful shower. Sometimes, a theme can be as simple as a color or color scheme (try to think out of the box though! “Blue is for boys,” and “Pink is for girls,” are beyond stale.) Check out this post by Cami at the Dating Divas for a lit of baby shower themes:

-Airplanes

-Baseball

-Ahoy, it’s a boy! (Decorate with nautical décor or pirates!)

-Tutu cute

-Little sweetie (Candy theme)

-Bed time stories, or fairytales

-Pea in a pod

-Mommy to “bee”

-Love you to the moon and back

-Cute as a button

Offbeat (But Genius) Baby Shower Gifts

by Kathy T.

At every baby shower, you see more or less the same things: about a thousand onesies, a million diapers, and maybe a few books and toys. While these are all useful and definitely necessary, it can get pretty old. Peggy Wang at Buzzfeed has compiled this awesome list of unexpected gifts that new parents don’t even know they need. It’s impossible to list all the products and pictures here, but be sure to check out the list! Included are ideas like stroller storage add ons, bottle holders, a baby shusher, an on-the-go changing mat, and a battery operated nail trimmer.

Fun Baby Shower Activity Idea

by Kathy T.

The internet has no shortage of fun baby shower ideas. Food, games, decorations, gift ideas, and activities are all available at the click of button. Every once in a while, I stumble across something really new and adorable, and I can’t help sharing it! Today, I found this baby shower activity at My Pretty Pennies:

The host of the party passes around a basket of (clean!) diapers and some markers– make sure they’re safe and nontoxic. The guests then write encouraging, funny, or uplifting notes to the new parents-to-be! It’ll make diaper changing more fun for mommy and daddy, and the guests will have a blast. What a cute idea.

Be sure to check out the full post for more ideas!

Gender Reveal Parties: “Waddle” it Be?

by Kathy T.

If you haven’t heard about gender reveal parties, you’re not the only one. A fairly recent trend that has taken the blogosphere, Pinterest, and pretty much the entire online community of expectant moms by storm. It’s a bit like a baby shower, but instead of opening gifts, the soon-to-be parents find out the sex of their baby while surrounded by family and friends.

I’ve seen tons of great ideas for the big reveal: you cut open a cake revealing either a pink or a blue middle, you release a box of mystery colored balloons, open up a gift to find a gender-specific onesie— the possibilities are truly endless. It does require a lot of secrecy and planning from one designated friend, but the payoff is always worth it.

One of the best ideas for these parties that I’ve seen is a duck-themed one titled: “Waddle It Be?” Isn’t that the cutest?

For more gender reveal cakes and ideas, check out this post from The Newlywed Pilgrimage.

Did You Do a Gender Reveal?

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

I never had the opportunity to learn the sex of my children before they were born. My insurance policy at the time allowed one ultrasound and both were done before I was far enough along – before they were developed enough – to tell if they were boys or girls. I knew in my heart that both children were boys.  I was wrong both times.

However if I had been able to know ahead of time, it might have been fun to have a gender reveal announcement. (So you could get gender appropriate gifts!)  🙂

From We Love Being Moms, here are some cute gender reveal ideas,

Outfits
Unwrap a baby outfit in front of guests.
Have a child wear a shirt that says “excited to have a baby sister/brother.”
Have family wear pink or blue clothes to share the news.
Take a picture of families feet with an extra pair of blue/pink shoes added to the picture.

What about you? Did you have a gender reveal?

Personal Baby Blanket

by Kathylynn 1 Comment

Butterflies_tn
It seems as if baby season is among us. I have been to lots of baby showers lately and can’t believe all of the new gift ideas. All of the new things are great but are they special. Having my first baby was such a special time and my favorite gift that I received were the ones that were more personal. The bloggers at Cribs For Babies feel the exact same way….

"It doesn’t really matter what kind of personalized baby blanket
it is. It can be a silky receiving blanket, a delicately woven throw
blanket, or a uniquely soothing swaddle blanket such as the Cradle Me
Baby Swaddle Blanket. Every baby has his or her absolutely favorite
cuddle companion and beware the one who tries to pry it away… And if
the blankie includes an adorable animal character, so much the better."

If you are  going to buy the comforter set off of the registry, why not go the extra mile and have it personalized.  Another good idea is to hang a personalized comforter on the wall as a decoration. We spend so much money on the bedding set, yet rarely use the comforter for the babies. Watch a mother  to be open your gift with a little added touch and enjoy the smile you will see spread across her face.
