Fruits And Veggies To Never Give Your Dog
Dogs love eating “people” food- and most of it is safe for them to eat. My dogs love table scraps- chicken, ground beef, noodles, rice, veggies, eggs, bread- they’ll basically eat anything. However, there are some foods that are toxic or dangerous to dogs. Some are obvious, like chocolate, alcohol, and small chicken bones. But, some are sneakier! Check out this post by I Heart Dogs for fruits and veggies that you should avoid giving to dogs:
-Grapes and raisins- can cause irreversible kidney damage
-Onions and garlic- can cause heart and respiratory problems
-Cherries- the pit is extremely poisonous to dogs
-Raw/unripe/green potatoes- can cause nausea, vomiting, and heart failure

“If You’re Cold, They’re Cold”
…That’s the general rule for bringing dogs into the house. I have big, furry dogs, so I don’t bring them in at night unless it gets below 40 degrees F. They have built in fur coats, a comfy bed, and can snuggle with each other. Some dogs get cold much easier than that, though, depending on their size, their coat, and where their breed originates from (huskies will do much better in the cold than chihuahuas!). To tell if your dog is too cold, check out this article by Lady Bug at Pets Lady:
-If it is too cold for you to be comfortable outside for a few minutes, it’s too cold for your dogs
-Shivering, trembling, curling into a ball, or holding tail close to his body
-Cold ears or body- feeling the tips of your dog’s ears is a good way to check his temperature
-To keep them warm: protect their paws from the cold, bring them inside at night to sleep, or get them a good, warm dog house if they are outside dogs. Bring them to the vet if they begin exhibiting odd behavior!

How To Help Animal Shelters This Holiday Season
If you are in the giving spirit this season, consider helping out your local animal shelter. They need donations (food, money, cleaning supplies, toys, etc.) and volunteers year round to take care of pets without a home. For more ways that you can lend a hand, check out these ideas by Jaymi Heimbuch at Mother Nature Network:
-Share adoption profiles on social media, or hang up fliers for events.
-Walk dogs and play with cats.
-Get crafty- create toys and bedding using old t shirts and blankets
-Raise funds at your job, school, or even a birthday party or other celebration.
-Adopt! Consider bringing a new dog or cat into your family. It’ll be the best gift they ever get.

How To Be The Best Cat Mom (Or Dad) Ever
Most people think cats basically raise themselves, which is true to some extent. They go to the bathroom on their own, eat when they want, and sleep 90% of the day- which is great for lazy owners. However, cats do present their own sets of unique mannerisms that their owners have to embrace. For tips on being the best cat parent you can be, check out this infographic by Jesse Padilla at Entirely Pets:
-Make time to play and bond with your cat- they also like exercise and attention!
-But, give them lots of space of their own.
-Take your cat to the vet twice a year
-Keep them indoors- they will love longer and be safer
-Don’t give them human food, and keep track of their weight
