If you’re selling a home, you need to get a Realtor. Period. I’m not even a Realtor, so I have no self interest at stake when telling you this. By not getting one, you could be cheating yourself out of thousands of dollars, or risk not selling your home at all. The only people who don’t need to hire a Realtor themselves when selling are those with past real estate experience, who know how to navigate, negotiate, and deal with all the legal aspects of a home sale. If you’re still not convinced, read this post by James Vasquez at Life Hack for reasons you should never For Sale By Owner:
-You don’t know what you don’t know- with no access to MLS data, you could be seriously over or underpricing your home.
-You won’t get enough market exposure- a sign in the yard is not going to cut it. Buyers that are already pre-approved for a mortgage are going to have their own agent, and will only be looking at homes on the MLS.
-Your inexperience could cost you- you likely haven’t handled hundreds of closing negotiations like your local Realtors. This could cost you thousands of dollars.
