I tried Google Chrome’s web browser the first week it was released and it just… it did not move me. I didn’t dislike it, but there was no compelling reason to drop Firefox or Internet Explorer to use it, at least for me. It wasn’t faster, didn’t have cool features, and at the time, wasn’t known to be more secure. It was just another web browser, so I dismissed it.
However, while I gave up on Google Chrome, Google didn’t. They’ve been working on the browser, improving its look, add-ons, speed, and (crucially) security. I recently decided to give it a second try after it won the Pwn2Own hacking contest as the toughest-to-crack web browser and… yeah, I have to admit I’m really enjoying using it. As far as I can tell, it really does load pages faster and use a whole lot less memory than Firefox, IE, and Safari.
I’m not the only one making the switch to Chrome. According to a recent Net Applications study, third party browsers continues to chip away at market share, as Chrome, Safari, and Opera rose while IE and Firefox both fell. Since its debut, Chrome has just really jumped, rising 5% since November 2009. I can see why. The second chance was the one that mattered for me and Google Chrome.
Have you guys given Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE, or some other browser a second chance to win back your love?
