Fun Friday Video: The SEO Rapper

by Ron Hogan Leave a Comment

I really can’t provide any more helpful information than that provided by Mo Serious, the SEO Rapper.  So rather than add my two cents into the debate on search engine optimization, I’ll just let Mo take over.  After all, he’s got serious flow, and I am the antithesis of rapping skills.  Not only is this guy talented, he’s got some GREAT tips for optimizing your website and getting your content polished and placed to where the maximum amount of people can view it.

Take it away, Mr. Mo Serious!

In the real world, Mo Serious’s name is actually Charles “Chuck” Lewis, and in addition to being the SEO rapper, he also runs an entertainment company and releases his own musical recordings, both as The SEO Rapper and as Poetic Prophet (for his religious-themed music).  You can hear more of Mo’s music in video form at his YouTube page.  It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re into this sort of thing; if nothing else, it’s a lot of good, free SEO advice for beginners!

Musical Monday: Mario Gets Jazzy

by Ron Hogan Leave a Comment

Actually, Mario does more than get jazzy with Super Mario Galaxy 2, which came out over the weekend.  Mario actually gets the full orchestral treatment thanks to composer Mahito Yokota and the Mario Galaxy Orchestra.  Even better, the entire OST for Super Mario Galaxy 2 (including the song playing right now, Supermassive Galaxy) is available for streaming at Mahito Yokota’s YouTube channel.

It’s a great soundtrack, and an even better way to get the day moving in the right direction.  Yokota manages to find the right balance between stirring, whimsical, nostalgic, and modern for this sound track, which is probably the best soundtrack ever included on a video game, or at least for a video game of this generation.  It’s definitely music worth streaming sometime today.

Musical Monday: Theme From EEVIAC

by Ron Hogan Leave a Comment

This is the song “Theme From Eeviac” off the 1999 Man Or Astroman? album EEVIAC Operational Index and Reference Guide, Including Other Modern Computational Devices.  EEVIAC is, of course, a play off of ENIAC, the first supercomputer as we’d know it today.  They’re a catchy blend of punk, surf rock, and weird samples/science noise/sci-fi movie clips.

Musical Monday: A Tribute to xkcd

by Ron Hogan Leave a Comment

This is a wonderful tribute to webcomic xkcd and the Internet in general, featuring most of the Internet’s notable celebrities and/or writers and thinkers.  There’s literally hundreds of millions of hits between these collected folks.  Just take a look at the list:  Neil Gaiman, Wil Wheaton, Cory Doctorow, Lawrence Lessig, Bruce Schneier, Jason Kottke, Google Zurich, Hank Green, MC Frontalot, Patrick & Teresa Nielsen Hayden, Mr. Toast, Miss Cellania, Team Genius, Phil Plait, Allan Amato, Maddy Gaiman, Charissa Gilreath, Belinda Casas, Chuck Martinez, Jeremy James, Joanna Gaunder, Lee Israel & Octavio Coleman Esq. of The Jejune Institute.

It’s based off this strip, which is further based off those Discovery Channel commercials.  It’s so sweet and wonderfully cheerful that I can’t help but smile.

2009 was a bit of a crazy year, eh? I’d forgotten about a lot of what went on, but this video year in review from JibJab refreshed my memory in a rather funny way. I hope you enjoy this first day of a new year!

Musical Monday: Merry Christmas From Chiron Beta Prime

by Ron Hogan 1 Comment

Some times, it feels like preparation for Christmas is like slaving away in a mine for a bunch of evil robot overlords, doesn’t it?  Well, it’s not all bad, as sometimes even robots can give you presents.  For example, that giant metal Santa Claus on the corner might just give you a Soylent Green pie.  Plus, there’s all the snow.  It might be flakes of ammonia, but still!  That’s better than nothing, right?

Before anyone asks:  no, I’m NOT ready for Christmas.  I still have presents to get.  Yeah, last minute is the way I have to do things, and no, I don’t know why.  I try my best to *not* be this way, but… ugh.  When I have time to waste, it always gets wasted.

Are you guys ready?  I can’t be the only one not ready, can I?

Friday Fun Video: Muppets do “Carol of the Bells”

by Miranda Marquit Leave a Comment

I love the song “Carol of the Bells” — preferably when it’s all instrumental. This rendition from the Muppets really tickled me. I hope you enjoy it in the spirit of the season.

Happy Friday!

Fun Friday Video: Bohemian Rhapsody

by Ron Hogan 2 Comments

The stringer at the end of this video is hilarious and true.  Pretty much every one of the web or phone-based meetings I’ve ever had have been a huge waste of my time (and, presumably, everyone else’s time).  I’ve never had a conference break down into a Queen singalong, though.

A couple of weeks ago, I got to go to a double feature of The Muppet Movie and Labyrinth.  I have to say, The Muppet Movie holds up REALLY well.  It was metatext before metatext was cool.  Great, classic, still very funny movie that hasn’t aged a bit.  As for Labyrinth, well… it’s still very weird.
