What To Include In Each Blog Post You Write

by Kathy T.

Today’s readers have certain expectations when it comes to blog posts. There is little tolerance for things like basic spelling errors, walls of text with no images, or badly formatted posts. That’s why, if you’re just starting as a blogger, it helps to look at other blogs first for inspiration. Or, read posts like this one by Tiffany at Beautiful Dawn Designs for what you should include in every blog post you write:

-Create a catchy title

-Use high quality images in your post

-Use heading tags

-Link to older posts

-Include a question or a call to action to encourage reader interaction

You Don’t Need Traffic To Make Money As A Blogger

by Kathy T.

There are some bloggers out there who are wildly successful, and make six figures writing and promoting their sites. However, most bloggers are not going to make THAT much money. You can, if you have the traffic and the time to dedicate to it. However, there are even more bloggers out there that make a decent living, and get paid to do what they love, even without hundreds of thousands of page views. Check out this post by Kayla Cruz at Lose GenY Girl for how:

-Write sponsored posts- companies will pay you to support their products

-Join Pannel

-Google adsense

-Sell your own products- you can create printables, an eBook, or run a class!

Productivity Habits To Adopt Before The New Year

by Kathy T.

Working from home itself can be a huge productivity drain. It’s hard to focus on work when there is housework to be done, pets to watch, kids to take care of, and Netflix to watch. It’s a miracle that anything gets done, really. Well, it’s time to kick procrastination to the curb. It’s almost a new year, which means it’s time to adopt new, healthy habits. Check out this post by Katie M. Mclaughlin at Pick Any Two for habits that productive people do every day:

-Set aside 5-10 minutes for planning each day

-Take care of quick tasks immediately

-Write a to do list (during your 10 minute planning period) and prioritize it. What are the top 3 things you need to get done today?

-They know when (and when not) to multitask

-They have a time management tool that works for them- a planner, or maybe an app.

Why Isn’t Your Blog Making Money?

by Kathy T.

So, you’ve heard countless tales of bloggers who make their living by doing nothing but writing. And some of them make really good money! But you’ve been running your own blog for a while now, are providing interesting content that has a solid reader base, and have connected with advertisers and received some checks. But it just isn’t cutting it. Sure, it may pay for groceries once in a while, but that’s it. So, how do you step your game up and start making some real cash? Check out this post by Bonnie Andrews at Hobby to Hot:

-You aren’t selling yourself

-Connect the dots with a clear call to action

-Show them how your products will work for THEM

-Promote, promote, promote!

How To Keep Your Blog Interesting

by Kathy T.

It can be a huge challenge for writers and bloggers to constantly be thinking of fresh, engaging ideas. When your job is to get people to visit your site, you have to make sure you have something that hooks them and makes them want to click! For ideas on how to keep your content catchy, read this article by Chaltra at It’s Pink Pot:

-Plan ahead to make sure you maintain a theme throughout all your posts

-Curate valuable and relevant content- share stories that will increase your readers’ skill set.

-Be personal- write in your voice, as if you are talking to a friend. Share personal anecdotes!

-Tell a story, and structure your post as one!

Coming Up With A Blog Name

by Kathy T.

I’m a writer, and not just for this blog. I write stories, and am currently working on two novels. And let me tell you, the HARDEST part of writing is coming up with names and titles. It has to be absolutely perfect, fit the character, and encompass the entire theme of the book. Needless to say, it can be stressful. Often, I don’t title something until I’m finished writing. However, if you’re a blogger, the very first thing you need is a name. Your title should tell readers what sort of blog it is (Mommy blog? Finance blog? Fashion blog? Craft blog?), and also tell them something about yourself. Check out this fun generator from Heart IFB for ideas. It’s specifically for fashion writers, but you can use their fun combinations for just about any type of blog:

-Throw a shoutout to where you live, for example: Sassy Seattle, Lace in Louisiana.

-Give yourself a cute nickname: Pristine Polly, The Aristo-Chick, etc.

-Use the word “fashion” and combine it with a random word: Fashion Giraffe, Fashion Vitamins.

Instead of fashion, think of words that go with your topic. You could be, “The Crochet Kitten,” or “Moneybags Marie”. Personally, I’m a fan of puns.

Directing More Traffic To Your Site

by Kathy T.

It’s simple- more clicks = more people viewing your page. The more people who view your page, the more potential clients or customers you have. If you are a business blogger, or an entrepreneur, this is absolutely crucial! Even if you aren’t selling a product or service on your site, having lots of traffic and a loyal readership will make companies want to pay for ad space. Therefore, everyone wants more people coming to their site! Check out these tips by Ashley and Malone for increasing your visitors:

-Use social media icons, place them prominently

-Include a good photo of yourself

-Show off your testimonials and reviews from satisfied customers

-Use quality images and photos

-Link to your email
