This has never been a problem for me personally. My cats will scratch holes in the walls/carpet, launch themselves at blinds, and get stuck up on bookshelves, but they’ve never had any interest in being on kitchen counters. Yay me, I guess? But, one of my best friends does not have it so easy. He has to lay out plastic grocery bags on his kitchen chairs, table, and yes, counters, to keep his cats off. If you have the same problem, check out this post by Tess Wilson at Apartment Therapy for tips:
-Use cookie sheets or aluminum foil on counter edges. It will make your cat jump to the floor, and create an unpleasant sound (kind of like the plastic bag idea)
-Or, use sandpaper or tape/ something sticky. Your cat will hate the feel under her paws.
-Pull down blinds so cats can’t bask on counters in the sun, block their view of the birdfeeder
-Spray a peppermint solution to deter your cat.
