When I was little, I was obsessed with rocks and crystals. One of my most valued possessions was one of those crystal point necklaces, and that obsession has only escalated. I like to decorate my home now with amethyst clusters and other polished stones. Needless to say, when I was younger, I thought that rock candy was the most beautiful food that existed… but I never tried making it myself (I’m not a patient person, hahaha). However, it is super easy! Growing your own rock candy with your kids is a fun, gorgeous science experiment- perfect for a rainy day. Check out this post by Crystal Underwood at Growing a Jeweled Rose– it has the full recipe, as well as an explanation of the science behind rock candy. All you need to make it is:
-Sugar
-Water
-Skewers/candy sticks
-A jar or glass
-Clothespins
-And (optional)- food coloring and candy flavor
