Where To Write

I am the worst procrastinator in the world (or best, I suppose). If there is a distraction around when I try to write, you can bet I’ll be distracted..probably for a few hours, until it becomes time to freak out because my work isn’t done. I used to write in my bed, but of course there is my phone, a book, and the TV, not to mention the internet…or, you know, pillows and naps. Then, I wrote at the desk space in my room. Less distraction, but I still had access to procrastination enablers like my phone- plus I could still watch TV. Finally, I decided that the only way to actually get anything done at home was to get out of my room (and leave my phone there!). Now, I either write at the kitchen table, or outside on my porch. I have to have a completely distraction-free space. It also helps if I’m out in the fresh air (and if I put a temporary site blocker on my browser for Facebook and Pinterest). For tips on creating your perfect writing space, check out this post by Christy at Avoiding Atrophy:

-Pick an area that you actually want to be in your home.

-If you can, write by a window. Watching people, plants, and animals do their thing can be inspiring.

-Remove all unnecessary distractions and keep the area clean.

-Keep only things that inspire you to write- favorite pens, notebooks, stationary. Be picky and claim ownership!
