No one wants to be the mom who is constantly screaming at her kids in public. We’ve all seen it, and we’ve all judged her. But, what happens if your kids just don’t listen unless you yell? Some kids just honestly don’t take their parents seriously unless they bring out the big guns. Whether it’s a discipline problem, or just a personality problem, it’s still extremely frustrating for parents who don’t know what else to do. For tips on how to get your kids to listen- without yelling- check out this post by Ariadne Brill at Positive Parenting Connection:
-Set limits early, and stick to them so it doesn’t progress to shouting matches
-Ask questions that invite cooperation- instead of yelling “WHY HAVEN’T YOU BRUSHED YOUR TEETH YET? WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES?”, ask “What else do you need to do to get ready?”
-Connect before making a request- physically get down on their level, make eye contact, and speak kindly to them.
