Solar Light Projects To Try This Summer

by Kathy T.

Solar energy is free- why not make the sun work for you? It’s infinite and creates no waste! That’s why I love having solar powered lights in my yard. They charge all day with the (FREE) sunlight, then keep my garden lit up at night. You can get some pretty decent solar lights from dollar stores, and if you are crafty, you can jazz them up and create some solar powered art. For ideas, check out this post by Gail at My Repurposed Life:

Fans For the Fall

by Kathy T.

Fans are a great, practical accessory to any room. That is, if you know how to utilize them correctly. Large metal/plastic fans usually don’t look great, but a stylish ceiling fan can really pull a room together. However, there are other types of fans besides ceiling fans! Check out this post by Nancy Moeller at the Active Rain blog for some inspiration that you’re sure to be a “fan” of:

-Smart ceiling fans- These fans are about keeping the temperature and atmosphere in your home at optimum levels using the least amount of energy.

-Whole house fans- Older homes that don’t have central air-conditioning can be fitted with a whole house fan.

-Other options include free-standing box, floor, tower or pedestal fans. You can move these portable fans from room to room throughout the day.

Elbow Grease and Dawn for Home DIY

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

A friend of mine told me this weekend that Dawn dish washing detergent was perfect for  killing pet fleas. They said you first must take off the collar and soap up around the neck. This would prevent fleas from going to your pet’s face as you wash the rest of their body.  There are about a zillion other uses for this diverse detergent.  From One Good Thing by Jillie,

A cup of Dawn detergent poured into a clogged toilet allowed to sit for 15 minutes and then followed with a bucket of hot water poured from waist height will clear out the toilet.

Any way to keep the plumber away works for me!

Fairy Berries for Your Next Party

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

This. I love this so much!  Fairy berries lights for your outside party, swimming pool, etc.

What a charming effect these little orbs of light make as they gently fade in and out. Scatter or hang them anywhere—yard, patio, table, garden, trees…they’re even water resistant to add a soft glow in a pool, pond or fountain.

I’m thinking these would be really neat at a wedding, too!
