I see (and write!) so many posts about how to keep pests out of your yard- aphids, ants, ticks, mosquitoes, etc., but I’ve never written about insects that you actually WANT in your garden. Bugs like bees, butterflies, ladybugs, and spiders will clean your plants, keep your crops pollinated, and get rid of the bad insects. Check out this post by Stephanie at Garden Therapy for bugs you want, and how to attract them. Plant plants with:
-Nectar- carrots, fennel, and Alyssum produce plenty of sugar
-Pollen- provides protein for the good guys- plant asters, Echinacea, and daisies
–Trap plants- like nasturtiums, lupins, and shasta daisies will attract insects that the beneficials feed on.
