Solar Light Projects To Try This Summer

by Kathy T.

Solar energy is free- why not make the sun work for you? It’s infinite and creates no waste! That’s why I love having solar powered lights in my yard. They charge all day with the (FREE) sunlight, then keep my garden lit up at night. You can get some pretty decent solar lights from dollar stores, and if you are crafty, you can jazz them up and create some solar powered art. For ideas, check out this post by Gail at My Repurposed Life:

Rain Chain Inspiration

by Kathy T.

I love rain chains! I only recently found out about them, but I think that they’re wonderful. They’re kind of like windchimes, but with rain. The water falls down them (usually made of metal) and makes “music”. Chains also direct water downward, and some people use them as replacement downspouts on gutters. Others use them to direct water in their gardens. Personally, I like them only as decoration. If you’re interested in a rain chain of your own, check out this post by Kathy Woodard at the Garden Glove:

Birds and Blooms had this rain chain from spoons project, complete with instructions. I love the look of this, and using old flatware just makes it more interesting!

Rolling Sandbox

by Kathy T. Leave a Comment

If you have ever had a sandbox in your yard and there are cats in your neighborhood, you know firsthand that the two don’t mix!  This sandbox is a genius way to give your kids a place to play without worrying about them scooping up kitty poo.  AND it will look great in your yard!  From exaco.com,

Bring the beach to your backyard with these fun, safe and innovative sand boxes. Each assembles quickly and can be placed anywhere in the yard. Roof canopy protects against intense sunlight, rain and keeps the sand clean and sanitized when closed. The wood is smoothly finished with softened corners and is treated with an ecology protective water based preservative.

Isn’t “sanitized” a much nicer way of saying kitty poo?

squirrels. Made from steel with a durable powder-coat finish. Comes
fully assembled. 12"x12"h.

Collapsible Wheelbarrow

by Kathy Helbig Leave a Comment

Collapsible
This is totally ingenious. A collapsible wheelbarrow makes hauling your yard stuff around so easy, to speak nothing of the convenience of storing this item. My gosh, can you imagine the space you will save not having to put your wheelbarrow somewhere in the garage?

The design makes it possible to sweep, rake or roll a load directly into
the barrow without lifting. The sturdy canvas barrow makes it
lightweight too.

It’s $125 from Smith & Hawken
