Most people know that it takes a lot of preparation to be able to own your own home. It requires planning and research and isn’t something that can be rushed into! To make sure that you are as prepared as possible, check out this post by L Bee and the Money Tree at Financial Best Life. Here are just some of the things you need to get done before even thinking of buying a home:
-Build your wishlist! Know what you’re looking for. Location? Number of bedrooms? Neighborhood? Fenced in backyard? Garage?
-Get pre-qualified/pre-approved for a mortgage, shop around for the best interest rates.
-Include all fees/closing costs in your budget.
-Have all your financial documents together before applying.
When I watch my nephew, I sometimes worry that I act like a “helicopter parent”- constantly hovering a foot away from him, doing things for him, and never letting him figure out things on his own. I want to help him become more independent, but he is only two years old and still does need a lot of help! The problem is, where do you draw the line? How much help is too much? And what can you do to help empower your kids? Luckily, I found this post by Jane Nelsen and Lynn Lott at the Positive Discipline Blog that has some awesome tips:
-Show faith in your kids, and express it to them. Tell them that you firmly believe they can accomplish the task. Love and encouragement goes a long way!
-Express your limits- make sure they know you’re not willing to constantly bail them out of trouble, by doing their homework for them, etc. Make sure they understand the consequences of their actions.
-Joint problem solving- if they do get stuck, figure it out WITH them, not FOR them. Ask questions, like “What do you think the answer is? Why?”
The more advanced our technology becomes, the more we are able to integrate it into almost every part of our daily lives. We have smart cars, smart TVs, and smart homes. If you love technology and keeping up with the latest gadget trends, or if you just want to give your kitchen a futuristic upgrade, check out this post by New Life Bath and Kitchen at My Kukun! Here are some of the latest kitchen tech trends:
-Smart ovens- start pre-heating from your phone, or control temperature and cook time.
-Smart refrigerators- have cameras installed, so you can check the contents from your phone while you’re out shopping.
-Smart cookware- tracks temperature in real time and gives recipe help!
Alright, I’m gonna admit- I didn’t even know pet insurance was a thing. But it makes sense! If your pet has a chronic illness, or a medical emergency, it could save you costly vet bills and give you peace of mind. Heck, my pets have always been really healthy, but we do still have to take them in for shots, spaying/neutering, and other preventative care. For why you should invest in pet insurance today, check out this post by Kristen at Kristen Levine:
-It saves you money when dealing with unexpected vet visits
-It allows your pet to receive the best medical care possible
-You’ll never have to compromise your pet’s health over your finances.
