It’s no secret that old, outdated windows can really cost you on energy bills. If they’re letting all your cool air escape in the summer, what’s the point of having them? Yes, sometimes replacing old windows and doors can get costly, but in the long run, it will most likely save you big time. There’s also another great reason to upgrade: tax breaks! Check out this post by Maggie Dokic at Active Rain for more info:
-If you installed new windows or doors in 2014, you may be able to claim up to $500 in tax credits.
-For doors, you can claim up to a $500 credit.
For windows and skylights, you can claim only up to a $200 credit. (That’s total — not per window.)
10% of expenditures, up to a lifetime $500, for all energy improvements combined.
Save receipts and labels.
File IRS Form 5695.
