One of the hardest things to deal with as an animal lover is having pet-related allergies. One time, a lost pet rabbit wandered into our yard– she was big, gray, and fluffy, and didn’t run away when people approached her. We built a makeshift pen for her in our back yard until we found her a home. I only got to pet her a few times, and every time I did, I had a massive allergy attack. My eyes would get itchy and red, and I’d sneeze for about an hour afterward. I’ve had the same reaction to horse dander (I used to live in Kentucky!) and sometimes, to cats and dogs, but only if I spend a TON of time with them, and get their hair all over me. Having both pets and allergies is hard, but it’s possible if you know how to manage them. Check out this post by Chelsea at Two Twenty One for tips on reducing allergens in the home:
-Dust, then vacuum
-Always vacuum under the bed
-Don’t let your pets sleep with you; maybe have them sleep in a different room
-Vacuum couches and chairs
-Wash bedding and blankets regularly
-Use an air filter to trap pet dander
